Skye is a place to be continually discovered. The more you see it, the more you'll want to see.
Shorefield House and Abar View are both ideally situated for this.

Even the furthest corners on Skye are only just over an hours drive from Shorefield house and Abar View.

Just imagine those long warm evenings when the sun sets a little before midnight.  You can watch some of these spectacular sunsets over the western hills from Shorefield whilst listening to the sounds of the nightime wildlife on and around the loch.

    To fully appreciate Skye you need to sample the local delicacies and experience it's fine restaurants . 
    Restaurant and hotel menus reflect the surprising variety of Highland Cuisine.

    Skye produces it's own strawberries and blueberries, a wide variety of salad leaves and herbs.
    Fish from around the shores of Skye are smoked in the local smokehouse in broadford. This can be followed by a beer from the Isle of Skye Brewery or a malt from Talisker Distillery.

    Some of the finest restaurants are just a short distance from Shorefield House and Abar View.

    Getting to Skye

    By Car

    Road bridge from the mainland:
    The bridge enables you to drive over to Kyleakin on the south-east tip of Skye to Broadford which is 24 miles from Armadale and 35 miles from Portree. 
    The vehicle tolls which started in 1995 were abolished in December 2004, so there is now no cost to the bridge

    By coach:

    Buses operate from Inverness, Fort William and Glasgow. Most of these buses will travel to Portree. Some go as far as Uig to coincide with the ferries over to North Uist and Harris.

    By train:

    Trains run from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh where you can:

    • walk across the road bridge to Kyleakin
    • Get the Highland Country bus number 355 across the bridge to Kyleakin only. approx every 30 minutes there and back.
    • Get the Citylink coach service to Broadford & Portree, etc

    Trains also run from Fort William to Mallaig where you can take the Ferry over to Armadale. It is recognised as being the most scenic railway lines in the country.

    A daily service is operated by First Scotrail

    In addition to the regular train service,  the Jacobite steam engine operates during summer months

    By Ferry

    The summer ferry runs 6 or 7 times a day (including some Sundays at the height of the season,) between Mallaig and Armadale on the Isle of Skye. The winter service is limited to 2 ferries per day (Monday and Friday only). Journey time approx 25 minutes.

    The privately-run ferry takes you over the see to Skye in a few minutes

    Getting to Shorefield House and Shorefield Self Catering: Abar View

    From the Skye Bridge & Mallaig:

    1. follow the A87 through Broadford to Portree.
    2. Leave Portree on the A87 to Uig.
    3. After 4.5miles (7km). Turn left on the A850 to Dunvegan.
    4. Travel 10 miles (16km) to Edinbane. 
       
      Abar View Self Catering is adjacent to Edinbane Pottery.

    From the Uig ferry:

    1. follow the A87 for approx 10 miles (16km).
    2. Turn right on the A850 to Dunvegan and travel 10 miles to Edinbane.

    3. Abar View self catering is adjacent to Edinbane Pottery.
